The last week has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. A few things happened which made me question why it is so easy for persons to do the wrong thing? Why is it so easy to take another human being’s life? Why is it so easy for someone to hurt someone he does not know and who has not hurt him? Why is it so easy to steal from someone who is in the struggle just like you?
The sad reality is that bad things happen to good people. We have what I call our “truck moments”. We get sideswiped by a truck, survive, but things are never the same after that. Every truck is another accident waiting to happen. Maybe there will be a few near misses, like a cement truck reversing with you right behind it with nowhere to go but it stops just in time and even some more “truck moments”, perhaps even worse that the earlier sideswipe. But just as how we have such a great capacity to do the wrong things, we also have a great capacity to overcome and also to do good.
Another truth is that everyone has advice, especially when you have these “truck moments”. Some mean you well, others not so much but whether they mean you well or not; learn to filter. Even if it is good advice, it may not be good for you. No matter how many “truck moments” there are; never lose sight of who you are, what you stand for and what you believe in. Stand up for what is right and most importantly, follow your dreams and do not settle.
